The Institute Carijós Pro-Nature Conservation, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1999 in order to support the implementation of conservation units in the State of Santa Catarina. The institution aims to promote participatory management of these units through the implementation of activities and projects in three main lines: environmental education, social mobilization and research.

The projects - developed by a multidisciplinary team – include children, youth and adults in schools, universities and companies located around the Estação Ecológica de Carijós . The IC has recently extended its field of action, meeting the demands of other units of the Santa Catarina coast such as the Environmental Protection Areas Anhatomirim and the Whale and Biological Reserve woods.
